LVM-Boston
Established in 1981, LVM-Boston
provides basic literacy tutoring to adults in the greater Boston area.
LVM-Boston and Project Lighthouse coordinate their recruitment,
orientations, trainings and ongoing support to matched volunteer tutors.
Professional support consists of monthly contact, personal meetings,
in-service trainings, a quarterly newsletter, tutor socials and open house
events and the annual Mardi Gras and Celebration of Literacy.

Project
Lighthouse
Established in 1989, Project
Lighthouse is an LVM program specifically designed to provide tutoring in basic
literacy and ESOL to homeless shelter guests in Boston.
Project Lighthouse is a
partnership established by Literacy Volunteers of Massachusetts with the
following shelters:

St. Francis House (Boston’s largest day shelter)

Casa Myrna Vasquez (a battered women’s shelter)

Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence (a
battered women’s shelter)

Women’s Lunch Place (a day shelter)
