About us

LVM’s award-winning program has been a proven solution for adults since 1972. What makes LVM special?

  • Student-centered tutoring that focuses on the goals, skills and everyday materials that are important to the student, helping to ensure success and keep motivation strong.
  • Confidential and flexibly scheduled tutoring that helps students overcome fear, embarrassment, scheduling, childcare or transportation problems which are often obstacles to learning.
  • High quality training and ongoing support from LVM’s professional staff to ensure that tutor/student pairs are successful and have a positive experience.
  • Committed and dedicated volunteers which make LVM cost-effective is delivering its services.

LVM is Massachusetts’ leading provider of literacy tutoring for adults and has a network of 12 programs throughout the state. Each local LVM program sponsors additional services and activities based on the needs of the local community.

The LVM office in Boston also develops new programs, provides technical assistance and training, conducts public awareness and advocacy activities, sponsors the LVM Conference for volunteers and students and publishes the LVM Student Journal, a professionally produced volume of original student writings.
